Surf Sports is a fun and rewarding way to stay active, build confidence and develop the skills used in lifesaving.
From Nippers through to Masters, members of all ages can compete at club, branch, state and national levels. Unlike many other sports, surf competition has a purpose—to improve the rescue skills, fitness and teamwork that help keep our beaches safe.
There are events for every interest and ability, including:

Whether you're looking to compete at an elite level or simply enjoy being active with friends, Surf Sports offers something for everyone.
COMPETITION
To compete for Wamberal SLSC, members must:
- Be a current financial member of the Club.
- Hold the appropriate Surf Life Saving award and maintain annual Skills Maintenance (Proficiency).
- Meet the annual patrol hour requirements set by Surf Life Saving Australia.
Patrol hour requirements include:
- Active Members (U15 to Masters): 25 patrol hours per calendar year.
- Reserve Active Members: 12 patrol hours per calendar year.
Members unable to complete regular rostered patrols due to work, study or other commitments may apply for Static Membership. Eligibility to compete remains subject to Surf Life Saving Australia's patrol hour requirements.
MASTERS
Masters competition is open to members aged 30 years and over and is a great way to stay active, have fun and enjoy friendly competition.
Members can compete at local, Branch, State, Australian and World Championship events across a range of disciplines, including swimming, board, ski, beach sprints, beach flags and relays.
To compete, you'll need to:
- Hold a current Bronze Medallion.
- Complete your annual patrol hour requirements.
- Be proficient for the current season.
- Register with the Masters Captain before each carnival.
Whether you're aiming for a medal or simply enjoying the team atmosphere, Masters is a fantastic way to stay involved in Surf Life Saving.
SURF BOATS
Surf Boat racing is one of Surf Life Saving's most exciting events, combining teamwork, strength and skill. Crews of four rowers and a sweep race through the surf, around turning buoys and back to the beach, often surfing waves to the finish.
Competitors race at local, Branch, State and Australian carnivals. To compete, members must hold a Bronze Medallion and meet annual patrol requirements.
Surf Boat competition includes divisions for Open, Under 23, Under 19, Reserves and Masters, providing opportunities for members of all ages and abilities.
