Welcome to Nippers at Wamberal Surf Life Saving Club, where the next generation of lifesavers is born! Our Nippers program is the heart of junior surf lifesaving in Australia, dedicated to shaping confident and capable future lifesavers who are ready to protect our beaches.
At Wamberal, kids aged 5-14 dive into a world of fun, friendship, and surf safety. Through age-specific activities both in and out of the water, they’ll learn essential skills like board paddling, shallow wading, beach running, and mastering the flags. But it’s more than just physical fitness, our Nippers gain a deep understanding of the ocean, learn CPR and basic first aid, and are trained to respond in rescue situations.
Parents are also invited to join our community at Wamberal, learning alongside their children and gaining valuable surf lifesaving skills. Together, we build courage, resilience, teamwork, and a strong sense of community. So come on down to Wamberal and be a part of this exciting journey. This is where fun meets lifesaving, and friendships are made for life!

Board Hire Changes – Season 2025/26
If you’re interested in hiring a board from the club this season, please read the following importan
Last season’s board hire fees were heavily subsidised, but they were not sustainable and did not allow us to replace our boards over time. We have also purchased a number of new foam and fibreglass nipper boards, which require higher hire fees to maintain.
Foamies
- $150 – New / as-new condition (0–2 years old)
- $100 – Good condition (2+ years old)
- $50 – Fair condition (2+ years old)
Fibreglass Nipper Boards
- $250 – New / as-new condition (0–2 years old)
- $150 – Good condition (2+ years old)
- $100 – Fair condition (2+ years old)
Mals
- $300 – New / as-new condition
- $200 – Fair to good condition
Current Stock
- Good supply of foam boards available.
- Only 15 fibreglass nipper boards available for hire.
- Large number of U11 Nippers are moving from foam to fibreglass this season, meaning demand will exceed supply.
- We have applied for grants to buy more boards but this will not fully meet the need.
Hire Process
To make the process as fair as possible:
- Pre register your interest (see below for how).
- Names will be drawn at random
- Hire offers will be made in that order until all boards are allocated.
Eligibility
- U9+ Nippers who regularly compete at local & branch carnivals and attend regular board training.
- All hires will be required to sign a simple hire agreement to:
- Commit to competition and training.
- Care for the board during the season.
